Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) poured in a career-best 34 points and fellow junior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) added a season-high 24 for Goldey-Beacom, which continued its solid play with a 110-101 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Chestnut Hill at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
The Lightning held an 85-68 lead with 10:19 left on an emphatic dunk from sophomore Jack Gjeding (Holbaek, Denmark). But the Griffins scored the next 15 points and closed to 85-80 with 7:53 remaining. Trevonn Pitts netted seven in that span.
Goldey-Beacom then used an 8-5 spurt to gain a 93-85 cushion with 5:34 to go as Livingston netted all eight points. But Chestnut Hill went on a 7-3 run and closed to 96-92 with 4:05 left, thanks to a big 3-pointer from James Rider.
However, Jones scored the next eight points to end it by canning two 3-pointers and then making a layup with 2:20 remaining for a 104-92 margin.
Livingston was a force by shooting 12-of-21 from the floor to go with seven rebounds, five 3-pointers and four assists. He bested his previous career best of 33 points from last season at Bloomfield.
Livingston's effort moved him up three spots to seventh place on the school's career scoring list. He now has 1,125 career points.
Jones also was a factor in shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 6-of-9 from 3-point range. It was his sixth double-figure outing of the season.
Sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) had 15 points and eight rebounds, junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) also netted 15 points with freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) adding 12 for the Lightning, who shot 53 percent (39-of-73) from the field.
Amir Warwick scored 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting, Pitts netted 20, Conor Regan poured in 12 with Keyon Butler adding 10 for the Griffins (4-21, 4-12 CACC), who shot 60 percent (36-of-60) from the floor.
Goldey-Beacom (13-12, 10-6) holds a three-game lead over Wilmington (7-9) with three games remaining for second place in the CACC South Division. The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a conference quarterfinal game on March 3.
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday again is home, this time to face Georgian Court at 3:00 pm.
