Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 19 University of the Sciences

Goldey-Beacom was looking to extend its four-game winning streak, but ran into one of the nation's best in an 80-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at 19th-ranked University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom in the first half played a solid defensive 20 minutes, holding USciences to just 31 percent shooting (11-of-35) that included 5-of-21 from 3-point range.  Sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) again was the offensive spark with seven points and six rebounds for the Lightning, who only found themselves down 27-20 at halftime.

But the Devils exploded in the third quarter to the tune of a 29-15 scoring edge for a 56-35 lead.  Jess Huber netted 15 points and Irisa Ye added 14 for USciences, which shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field in the period and 7-of-10 from three-point range.

Harrison again continues to be one of the key bright spots, ending with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds.  She entered the contest with a double-double in her last four games, but tonight still reached double figures in points for a 10th time this season.

Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) netted 12 points with sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) adding eight for the Lightning (5-15, 5-7 CACC), who shot 39 percent (20-of-52) from the floor.

Huber again went on a tear for the Devils with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go with an 8-of-12 showing from three-point range.  Ye also had a night with 21 points on 9-of-18 shooting for USciences (19-3, 12-1), which shot 43 percent (8-of-15) from the field and canned 18 three-pointers.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday at 4:00 pm (please note the start time) against Concordia (NY).  The men's game between the same schools follows at 6:00 pm.

At halftime of the men's game, the 2005-06 Golf Team will be inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame.  The squad won the NCAA East Regional, becoming the first team in school history in any sport to win an event in the NCAA Tournament.
