Men’s Basketball Stays Hot With 78-64 Victory at University of the Sciences



Goldey-Beacom continued its red-hot shooting with four players scoring in double figures for a 78-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom used outstanding shooting in the opening half, going 54 percent (14-of-26) from the floor with three 3-pointers, to open a 32-30 lead.  Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) poured in nine points in the half and fellow junior Tevin Service (Union, NJ) added six for the Lightning, who held the Devils to just 32 percent (9-of-28) from the field.
 
The Lightning in the second half led for a majority of the stanza, but had to be on guard after the Devils' Paddy Casey nailed a 3-pointer with 2:05 left for a 66-62 contest.
 
Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) missed a layup for GBC and it was USciences that had a chance to do more damage.  But Jones came up with a massive steal and went in for a layup, giving the Lightning a 68-62 cushion with 92 seconds left.
 
After a Devils turnover, junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) hit a layup with 1:25 to go for a 70-62 margin.  Casey missed a jumper on the other end and Jones nailed two free throws with 64 seconds to play for a 10-point contest.
 
Elliot closed with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting and went 7-for-8 from the line, helping the Lightning (10-11, 7-5 CACC) to their third victory in the last four games.  Jones poured in a season-best 16 points, Livingston had 14 and eight rebounds with Service getting 10 and six.
 
Goldey-Beacom shot 52 percent (30-of-58) from the floor, marking the seventh time this season it has gone for at least 50 percent.  The squad also is shooting a combined 56 percent (63-of-113) over its last two contests.
 
The Lightning also forced 25 turnovers, marking the 12th time this season they have induced at least 19.
 
Jordan White amassed 14 points and seven rebounds before fouling out, Thomas Melonja had 12 and 10 with Javon Gordon scoring 11 points for the Devils (5-15, 3-10), who shot 35 percent (20-of-57) from the floor.
 
Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday at 6:00 pm (please note the start time) against Concordia (NY).  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 4:00 pm.
 
At halftime of the men's game, the 2005-06 Golf Team will be inducted into the CACC Hall of Fame.  The squad won the NCAA East Regional, becoming the first team in school history in any sport to win an event in the NCAA Tournament.
