Women’s Basketball Dealt 79-52 Loss by Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom ran into a tough foe in the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion and was handed a 79-52 loss by Jefferson at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Rams gained control by outscoring the Lightning 18-8 in the third quarter for a 63-42 lead.  Haley Meinel scored nine points in the period on 3-of-6 shooting with three 3-pointers and Alynna Williams netted five points.

Williams was the story for the Rams, pouring 28 points on 11-of-21 shooting with four 3-pointers.  Meinel scored 15 points to go with eight steals and Maeve McCann added 11 points.

Sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) once again continues to show why she is one of the area's rising stars.  She netted 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting for her 13th straight contest in double figures and hauled in nine rebounds.

Sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) netted 12 points on four 3-pointers and senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) contributed eight points for GBC (8-18, 8-10 CACC).  Round now has 58 three-pointers on the season, good for seventh in school history.  McGrogan canned four free throws and now is four in school history with 320 career.

Jefferson (16-11, 12-6) clinched third place in the CACC South Division and will visit Dominican (NY) next Tuesday in the conference quarterfinals.
