Women's Basketball Defeats Wilmington 73-70



Goldey-Beacom ends its season with a, 73-70, Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win against Wilmington in Newark, DE.

A tough well fought battle by both teams started with Wilmington on top by two for the first quarter. Goldey-Beacom held Wilmington to 38.89% (7-18) from the field goal with two threes in the first quarter.

The Lightning took the second quarter gaining their momentum to have a 40-32 lead going into half-time. Goldey-Beacom shot 76.47% (13-17) from the field goal and held Wilmington to 40.0%.

In the third quarter both teams continued to fight for the lead, but the score remained tied at the end of the third quarter. Wilmington scored 21 points to make it a tied game, 53-53, going into the final quarter. The Lightning shot 31.25% from the field goal with one three and Wilmington shot 60.0% from the field goal with one three.

In the fourth quarter with a 1:13 left in the game, the Lightning had a one-point lead over Wilmington. Goldey-Beacom pulled away by four when Sarah Round (Northampton, England) hit a three with 0:58 seconds left. Both teams left it all on the court but Goldey-Beacom came out on top 73-70 to win the game.

Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) had a career bests of 32 points and 11 assists, sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds with Round netting 11 points for the Lightning.

McGrogan ends her outstanding career eighth in school history with 1,299 points, third with 343 assists, fourth with 324 free throws, tied for sixth with 103 three-pointers, seventh with 136 steals and eighth with 436 field goals.

Lashyra Williams had 29 points and Sabreen Muslim had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Wilmington.

The Lightning are back in action next year for their 2020-2021 season!
