Softball Competes in Day Two of the Snowbird Freeze Out



Goldey-Beacom took to the field on day two of the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC, being dealt a tough 5-3 loss by Kutztown before defeating Millersville 8-1.

In game one against Kutztown, Goldey-Beacom took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, Md.) crushed a two-run homer to center field that put the Lightning up 2-0. Kutztown fought back in the bottom of the first inning making it a one-run game when Alyssa Donato was walked to score Kate Ostaszewski.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kutztown adds three more runs to give it a 4-2 lead. Goldey-Beacom kept its momentum going by closing Kutztown's lead to one when freshman Maddie Beres (Middletown, Del.) hit an RBI double to center field.

Kutztown went on to add another run at the bottom of the third inning to win 5-3.

Junior Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) had two hits, Goshorn notched one hit and two RBI, Maddie Beres had one hit and one RBI, and freshman Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.) recorded one hit for the Lightning.

Brittany Hubler, Donato, Gillian Walsh, Ava Bottiglia, and Jessica Davidheiser each had one hit for Kutztown.

In Goldey-Beacom's second game, it took on Millersville and grabbed the early lead. In the top of the first inning, freshman Brooke Conaty (Wilmington, Del.) stepped up to the plate and nailed a ball to center field for a home run to start the game.

The Lightning kept their momentum going in the top of the second inning when freshman Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.) hits a sacrifice fly to center field allowing for junior Ali Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) to score, putting Goldey-Beacom up 2-0.

The Lightning didn't stop their adding two more runs at the top of the third inning when senior Jess Lusk (Victoria, B.C.) hit a two-run homer to left field for the Lightning's third home run of the day. Goldey-Beacom had a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning.

Kutztown closes the gap to three runs in the bottom of the third inning when Devan Masciulli hit a single RBI double to left field.

Goldey-Beacom continues to keep its lead in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore Emily Lozowski (Marlton, N.J.) stole home, freshman Haley Miller (Deptford, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in senior Kylie Quirk (Newark, Del.), and junior A. Henriquez hits an RBI single to third base to bring in junior Jaeda Henriquez to give the Lightning a 7-1 lead.

Goldey-Beacom added one more run to defeat Millersville 8-1.

Conaty, Goshorn, Lusk, and Ali Henriquez all had two hits and one run each for the Lightning.

The Lightning are back in action in Sunday for the final day of the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC. Goldey-Beacom will face Southern Connecticut State at 10am and Lock Haven at 12pm.
