Softball Ends Play at the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Goldey-Beacom competed in the final day of the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC. Goldey-Beacom was dealt a 7-4 loss by Southern Connecticut State and then a 6-2 setback by Lock Haven.

In game one, Southern Connecticut State took the early lead scoring a run in the top of the first and second inning. Goldey-Beacom quickly equalized the game when sophomore Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, Del.) crushed the ball to left field for a two-run homer.

Southern Connecticut State went on to add five more runs to have a 7-2 lead over the Lightning. Goldey-Beacom continued to battle to close the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning when senior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, Md.) hit an RBI double to left field.

That hit was the 100th in Goshorn's career, making her the 29th player in team history to reach that plateau.

The Lightning added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Whitman hit an RBI double to right field. Southern Connecticut went on to win the game 7-4.

Whitman had two hits, one run and three RBI.  Senior Kylie Quirk (Newark, Del.) recorded two hits and a run and freshman Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.) had two hits.

In game two, Goldey-Beacom and Lock Haven fought back and forth for the first three innings with the score remaining 0-0. Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead at the bottom of the fourth inning and added four more runs at the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 6-0 lead.

The Lightning did not give up at the top of the seventh inning scoring two runs. Freshman Haley Miller (Deptford, N.J.) hit an RBI single to right field and junior Taylor Beres (Middletown, Del.) reached on an error by the shortstop which allowed for Miller to score.

Whitman had two hits and a run with Goshorn, Miller and Kylie Seagroves (Eagle River, Alaska) each getting a hit for the Lightning.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Friday, February 28 for a doubleheader against Mars Hill at 2pm in Greeneville, TN.
