Goldey-Beacom opens its 2020 season at the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Lightning started off their weekend with two games against Shippensburg and Seton Hill. Goldey-Beacom dealt a 9-3 loss to Shippensburg and a 9-1 loss to Seton Hill in day one.
Goldey-Beacom took on Shippensburg first where the score remained even until Shippensburg took the lead in the third inning. Hannah Marsteller hit a single RBI double to right field which allowed for Halle Zullinger to score to give Shippensburg a 1-0 lead.
The Lightning continued to battle but Shippensburg increased their lead to 6-0 at the top of the fifth inning. Goldey-Beacom answered when Jaeda Henriquez (Jersey City, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field which allowed for Emily Lozowski (Marlton, N.J.) to score making it a four-run game.
In the top of the sixth inning Shippensburg continued its momentum by adding three more runs but the Lightning kept fighting. Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, Del.) and Kylie Seagroves (Eagle River, Alaska) add a run for Goldey-Beacom making it 9-3. Shippensburg stopped the Lightning in the seventh inning to win the game 9-3.
Henriquez, Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, Md.) and Nicole Makin (Edgewater Park, N.J.) all had one hit each. Lozowski and Whitman each had one hit and one run for the Lightning.
In Goldey-Beacom's second game it took on Seton Hill. The Lightning struck first taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Goshorn hit a single RBI to right field which allowed for Lozowski to score.Â
Seton Hill quickly responded in the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs and went on to score three more in the bottom of the second inning making it a 6-1 game at the top of the third inning.Â
The Lightning continued to battle but Seton Hill added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to win the game 9-1.Â
Goshorn had two hits, Hannah Davis (Bethel, Del.) and Brooke Conaty (Deptford, N.J.) each had one hit for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom will take on Kutztown at 10am and Millersville at 12pm on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, SC.
