Women’s Basketball Makes it Four Straight With 68-48 Victory Over Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom in the first half made a statement on both ends of the floor and rolled to its fourth straight win, 68-48 over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference-foe Bloomfield at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the opening quarter held the Bears to a mere 12 percent shooting (2-of-17) and forced them into four turnovers, racing to a 20-5 lead.  Sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ), who has dominated the paint in recent weeks, ended the period with eight points on 2-of-3 shooting along with five rebounds.

It was more of the same in the second quarter, when Goldey-Beacom owned a 17-8 scoring edge by limiting Bloomfield to only 25 shooting (4-of-16) for a 37-13 lead.  Senior Jill Latanowich (Newton, MA) was the catalyst in this period with eight points on 3-of-3 shooting.

When the dust settled, the Lightning had raced to a 37-13 halftime lead by shooting 38 percent (9-of-24) from the field and 18-for-22 from the line.  The defense also was impressive, limiting the Bears to only 18 percent shooting (6-of-33) and forcing six turnovers.

Harrison for the half closed with 10 points and 11 rebounds to already clinch her fourth straight double-double.

Harrison ended the contest with 12 points and 12 rebounds, marking the sixth consecutive game she scored in double figures and ninth time this season.  She has averaged 16.3 points during the six-game run to go with averaging 16.0 points and 11.0 rebounds over her last four contests.

Sophomore Vera Lauhaluoma (Espoo, Finland) also had a day with a career-best 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.  Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) poured in 11 points, moving into ninth place in school history with 1,184 career points, and also notched two steals to get her into ninth place with 121.
