Goldey-Beacom’s Department of Athletics Receives Professional Development from SHRM

11/23/2020 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's Department of Athletics continued its tradition of professional development for coaches and staff with a discussion from the Society of Human Resource Management on effective decision-making skills.

"It is important for our coaches and staff, as stewards of higher education, to recognize that learning is a lifelong endeavor," Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan said.  "For that reason, we maintain regular professional development for our staff, despite the state of the pandemic. The delivery method may have changed, but the effort persists."

Frank Ingraham formerly was a business process consultant and human resources consultant from DuPont.  He now is an at-large member of SHRM after previously serving at its state director.  His talk to the coaches and staff members focused on many topics that revolve around effective decision making that include:
  • Contributing factors to decisions
  • Reaching conclusions
  • Being decisive
  • Reducing response time
  • Best practices

"I have known Dr. Ingraham for many years through the SHRM organization," Goldey-Beacom Management Professor Dr. Nicole Evans said.  "He is a servant leader and he enjoys sharing his expertise in effective decision making. He has a passion for educating and helping others."
