Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Records 72-69 Victory Over Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom stepped back into play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division and battled its way to a 72-69 victory over Holy Family at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Eric Esposito canned a 3-pointer with 2:36 remaining to pull Holy Family within 67-64.  Goldey-Beacom then needed a big basket on the other end and got it when junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) drilled a huge triple with 2:15 to go for a six-point contest.

Following multiple empty possessions on both sides, the Tigers closed to 70-66 with 74 seconds remaining on Branden Aughburns' tip-in.  After Goldey-Beacom missed two free throws, Holy Family had yet another chance to close the gap.  But Aughburns missed a 3-pointer and the ball harmlessly fell out of bounds.

The Lightning missed a layup on their end and things then got even crazier when the Tigers' Brendan Hoban banked in a 3-pointer with 13 seconds to go for a 70-69 game.

The ensuing inbounds pass resulted in Hoban recording a steal with 10 seconds left and the Tigers had a chance to take the lead.  But Hoban missed a 3-pointer and the Lightning got the rebound.

Freshman Yasin Pretlow (Elizabeth, NJ) made two free throws to put the Lightning up 72-69 with 3.7 seconds left and Tigers set up a play.  But Goldey-Beacom intentionally fouled and that sent Aughburns to the free throw line for a one-and-one with two seconds remaining.

However, Aughburns missed on the front end and freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) got the rebound to finally end things.

Livingston and junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) scored 19 points apiece, freshman Jesiah West (Elizabeth, NJ) had 12 and nine rebounds with junior Tevin Service (Union, NJ) getting 12 and eight for the Lightning (7-7, 4-1 CACC), who scored 47 points in the second half by shooting 52 percent (17-of-33) from the field.

Esposito netted 18 points, Aughburns had 15 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks, Devon Moore recorded 12 points and eight rebounds with Hoban scoring 12 points for the Tigers (5-10, 2-4).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday hits the road to face Post for a 3:00 pm contest.  The women's game between the same schools begins at 1:00 pm.
