Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Handed 75-73 Loss at Post

Goldey-Beacom rallied in the final 3 1/2 minutes with a chance to win, but came up just short in a 75-73 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Post in Waterbury, CT.

Down 69-62 with 3:49 remaining, the Lightning began their charge.  Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) hit 1-of-2 from the line with 3:20 left and then canned a 3-pointer 18 seconds later before freshman Jesiah West (Elizabeth, NJ) made a layup with 2:40 to play for a 69-67 deficit.

Post made it 71-67 with 2:04 left on Marcus Johnson's layup, but West's dunk with 95 seconds remaining again cut it to a two-point margin.  Savion Boissard's layup with 54 seconds to go bolstered the Eagles' lead to 73-69 before freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) hit 1-of-2 from the stripe six seconds later, making it a three-point game.

Darrick Boyd's turnover with 29 seconds left gave Goldey-Beacom new life and a chance to tie the game.  Livingston was called upon and had a great look, but his three-point attempt bounced twice off the rim before going out of bounds to the home side.

D.J. Frechette's two free throws with 10 seconds to play moved Post to a 75-70 lead.  But Goldey-Beacom was far from done, getting a 3-pointer from freshman Yasin Pretlow (Elizabeth, NJ) with 4.6 seconds remaining for a two-point contest.

Isaiah Holmes was fouled for the Eagles with 3.8 seconds with his side still only in the one-and-one.  He missed the front end and the Lightning raced up the court after getting the rebound, but Derry's 3-pointer at the buzzer was just off.

Livingston closed with 22 points, nine rebounds and five 3-pointers over 31 minutes.  He moves into 12th place in school history with 928 career points and fifth with 129 career 3-pointers.

Derry ended with 13 points and six rebounds, West scored 12 points with junior J'von Winslow (Allentown, PA) adding 11 for the Lightning (7-8, 4-2 CACC), who shot 43 percent (32-of-74) from the floor and forced 16 turnovers.  They have created at least 16 turnovers in 14 of their 15 contests this season.

Boyd netted 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, Johnson recorded 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting with 11 rebounds, Devonte McCall had 12 and seven with Frechette scoring 11 points for the Eagles (11-4, 5-1), who shot 50 percent (17-of-34) from the field in the second half and 44 percent (31-of-71) overall.

Goldey-Beacom is back on the road Wednesday to visit 25th-ranked Jefferson, beginning after 8:00 pm.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 6:00 pm.
