Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt 64-52 Setback at 24th-Ranked Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom hung with 24th-ranked Jefferson for most of the contest, but in the end was handed a 64-52 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setback in Philadelphia, PA.

The teams went into the locker room at halftime tied at 31 with GBC shooting 45 percent (14-of-31) from the field and Jefferson slightly better at 46 percent (13-of-28).  Tevin Service (Union, NJ) continued his strong play with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting and fellow junior Tyler Jones (Lawrenceville, NJ) hauled in six rebounds for the Lightning.

Goldey-Beacom's defense came to play early in the second half, holding Jefferson without a field goal over the first 8 1/2 minutes.  But by the time the Rams hit their first basket, they had gone 8-for-9 from the line and the contest was a 41-41 tie.

A fastbreak layup from freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) got the Lightning within 53-51 with 6:45 to go, but it was all Rams after that.  The home side closed things on an 11-1 run thanks to five points from Kylan Guerra and four from Prince Hickson.

Service netted 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, Derry also poured in 14, junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) scored 10 and Jones amassed eight rebounds for GBC (7-9, 4-3 CACC), which shot 42 percent (22-of-53) from the field.

DeVaughn Mallory had 19 points and 14 rebounds, Hickson recorded 14 and nine, Guerra amassed 13 points and seven assists with Deondre Bourne scoring 13 points for the Rams (14-2, 7-0), who shot 46 percent (23-of-50) from the floor.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Nyack as part of its "Welcome Back Games."  A pizza party will be held for all students with a valid GBC ID and halftime contests will take place for the students.  The women's game is at 1:00 pm and the men's contest is at 3:00 pm.
