Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Dealt Tough 75-71 Loss by Nyack

Goldey-Beacom rallied from 23 points down to take the lead with less than two minutes left, only to be dealt a tough 75-71 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by Nyack at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning were in a 49-26 hole with 17:20 remaining before going on a 30-15 run, closing to 64-56 with 7:31 to go.  Sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) netted 10 points in that span with freshman Yasin Pretlow (Elizabeth, NJ) adding eight.

Jayden Dawson's dunk restored the Warriors' double-figure bulge at 66-56 with 7:19 to play before the Lightning again had their way.  The home side netted the next 13 points to gain a 69-66 cushion with 1:16 to go, thanks to six points from junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ).

In the aforementioned burst, junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) made a layup with 1:37 remaining to give GBC its first lead, 67-66, and Livingston added a pair of free throws 21 seconds later for the three-point margin.

Thomas Nolan canned a 3-pointer for Nyack with 64 seconds left for a 69-69 tie, but GBC had an answer.  Pretlow was fouled as he was going to the basket and his free throws with 45 seconds to go made it a two-point game.

Josh Bailey's layup with 39 seconds remaining got the Warriors even at 71 and they looked to have new life when Pretlow's jumper was off, but Livingston grabbed a huge offensive rebound before the Lightning called timeout.

However, Dawson saved the day.  He stepped right in front of the inbounds pass and went in for a dunk with 10.2 seconds to play for a 73-71 game.  What made things worse is that the Lightning committed an immediate turnover and the Warriors had the ball.

Joel Bailey was fouled for the Warriors with 6.3 seconds to go and he canned two free throws for the final.

Pretlow closed with a season-best 20 points, Livingston netted 18, Ligonde had 13 and 10 rebounds with Elliot adding 10 points for GBC (7-10, 4-4), which shot 51 percent (18-of-35) from the floor in the second half and overall forced 23 turnovers.  It marks the 16th time this season the Lightning have induced at least 16 turnovers.

Bailey ended with 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, Dawson scored 15 points, Nolan poured in 12 with Junior Graham adding 10 for the Warriors (8-8, 3-5), who shot 54 percent (27-of-50) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday against Georgian Court, beginning at 8:00 pm in Lakewood, NJ.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 6:00 pm.
