Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Notches 69-64 Victory at Georgian Court

Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) came up with big plays on both ends of the floor and Goldey-Beacom made it stick with a huge 69-64 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

Down 54-49 with 6:50 remaining, Goldey-Beacom went on a 13-5 run spanning just under five minutes for a 62-59 lead with 2:06 to go.  Livingston was just getting warm with 10 points in the spurt.

Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor temporarily had the good times subdued, canning a 3-pointer with 1:42 remaining for a 62-62 tie.  After a missed layup for the Lightning, it was the Lions who looked for the lead.  But Davon Floyd could not hit a 3-pointer and Livingston grabbed a massive rebound as he was fouled.

Livingston drilled both free throws with 54 seconds to play to give Goldey-Beacom a 64-62 lead.  Now it was time for defense and the one who stepped up was junior Tevin Service (Union, NJ), who drew an offensive foul from Bryce Council that sent the latter to disqualification.

Freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) was fouled with 27 seconds left and canned both of his free throws for a 66-62 margin.  Justin Figueroa responded on the other end for Georgian Court, making a layup with 20 seconds remaining to once again make it a two-point game.

Junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) was fouled on the other end and he made one of two free throws with 16 seconds remaining for a 67-64 contest.  The Lions now had a chance to tie, but they would not get off a shot the remainder of the game.

Livingston made the first of his two great plays by stealing a pass in the frontcourt, but he missed a layup and the ball went out of bounds to Georgian Court with eight seconds left.  The home side again tried for the tie, but Livingston stripped Figueroa and went in for a layup at the buzzer.

Livingston ended with 27 points, one short of a season high, and five 3-pointers that are one shy of a personal best.  He certainly has a liking to the Wellness Center, where he pumped in 29 points and six 3-pointers there in the teams' encounter last season.

He also matched his career best of 12 rebounds that he also recorded in 2018 against Concordia (NY) and, of course, Georgian Court.

Livingston now is at 983 career points, moving into 11th place in team history.

Derry closed with 16 points and five steals for the Lightning, who shot 41 percent (24-of-59) from the field and forced 19 turnovers.  They have induced at least that many turnovers in 11 games this season.

Ortiz-Traylor netted 14 points, Figueroa scored 12 with Kim Speller adding 10 and nine rebounds for the Lions, who were held to 38 percent shooting (24-of-64) from the field.

Goldey-Beacom (8-10, 5-4 CACC) moves into second place in the CACC South Division, one-half game ahead of Georgian Court (6-9, 4-4).  The top two teams in each of the two divisions host a quarterfinal in the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Saturday to visit Felician.  Game time in Rutherford, NJ is at 3:30 pm, which follows the women's 1:00 pm contest.
