Men’s Basketball Handed 74-68 Loss at Felician

Goldey-Beacom grabbed a late lead, but could not hold off Felician for a 74-68 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Rutherford, NJ.

Junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) had an outstanding first half for the Lightning in recording 13 points, but the Golden Falcons shot 48 percent (14-of-29) from the field and owned a 37-31 lead.  Josiah Basket netted 15 points for Felician.

The Lightning trailed for a majority of the second half, but took the lead with 2:33 left when junior Tevin Service (Union, NJ) converted a layup.

But Jeff Lewis, who only had scored two points at this juncture, came up with two huge baskets for the Golden Falcons.  His layup with 2:07 remaining gave his squad a 68-67 lead and, after a long scoring drought by both sides, canned a massive 3-pointer at the shot clock buzzer with 20 seconds left for a four-point contest.

Goldey-Beacom raced up the floor, but Livingston missed a 3-pointer and Felician corralled the rebound.  But Dee-End McRae missed the front end of a one-and-one and GBC had life, especially with Livingston being fouled with 10.3 seconds left.

Livingston made one free throw for a 71-68 margin, but Nas Amos followed suit with 9.6 seconds to play for a four-point game.  Livingston then missed a 3-pointer and Rachid Shimou hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds left for the final.

Livingston ended with 14 points and seven rebounds, putting him at 997 career points.  Sophomore Juran Ligonde (Boston, MA) netted a season-best 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting and freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) added 10 for the Lightning (8-11, 5-5 CACC), who shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field.

Shimou scored 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, Basket netted 17 with McRae amassing nine and 10 rebounds for Felician (6-12, 4-6), which shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the floor in the second half and 51 percent (28-of-55) overall.

Goldey-Beacom does not return to action until next Saturday, when it hosts Bloomfield at 3:00 pm.  The women's game between the same schools precedes it at 1:00 pm
