Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

McGrogan and Harrison Steal the Show for Women’s Basketball in 66-58 Victory at Georgian Court

Senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) dominated the fourth quarter and sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) had yet another solid game for Goldey-Beacom, which took over in the fourth quarter for a 66-58 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Georgian Court in Lakewood, NJ.

After surrendering the game's first 12 points, Goldey-Beacom ended the opening half on a 32-13 run for a seven-point halftime lead.  Harrison scored all 11 of her team-best points in that spurt, helping the Lightning shoot 12-of-21 from the field in that span and 50 percent (12-of-24) for the half.

The Lions were held to 41 percent shooting (11-of-27) with 11 turnovers, including seven in the second quarter.

Georgian Court got back into things with an 18-12 edge in the third quarter for a 44-43 deficit.    Safiyyah Lee netted eight points in the period for the Lions, who were limited to just 36 percent shooting (5-of-14) but went 8-for-8 from the line.

However, the fourth quarter belonged to McGrogan as she seemingly could do no wrong.  This included scoring 19 points in the period on 3-of-4 shooting and going 13-for-14 from the line, helping the Lightning (3-14, 3-6 CACC) to their 26th victory in the last 28 meetings with the Lions.

The Lightning outscored the Lions 22-15 in the final period, shooting 40 percent (4-of-10) from the floor and going 13-for-16 from the charity stripe.

McGrogan closed with 23 points, two shy of a season best, went 15-for-16 from the line and tied her season best with eight rebounds.  She now is seventh in school history with 277 career free throws.

Harrison also had a night, ending with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting with 10 rebounds.  It was her second double-double of the season, both in the last two games, and fifth career.

Lee poured in 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting with Savawn Hughes getting 11 for the Lions (4-12, 2-7), who shot just 38 percent (22-of-58) from the floor and committed 15 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday visits Felician for a 1:00 pm game.  The men's contest follows at 3:30 pm.
