Women’s Basketball Falls, 67-43, at New Haven



Goldey-Beacom ran into a tough New Haven squad, falling behind in the second quarter for a 67-43 loss in West Haven, CT.
 
The Chargers in the second quarter gained control, outscoring the Lightning 21-6 to open a 32-22 halftime lead.  Micah Wormack netted seven points in the quarter with Aurora Deshaies adding six for New Haven, which shot 69 percent (9-of-13) from the floor and induced five turnovers.
 
Sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) poured in nine points in the opening half on a trio of 3-pointers for the Lightning.
 
New Haven widened its lead to 53-35 at three-quarter time, shooting 64 percent (9-of-14) with three 3-pointers in netting 21 points.  Brie Pergola scored 11 points in the period with Deshaies adding six.
 
Round overall netted 12 points with four 3-pointers and five rebounds, junior Nina Bartlette (Winthrop, MA) poured in 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting to go with six rebounds, senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) recorded six assists and sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) added five rebounds for GBC (1-10).
 
Pergola had 20 points and eight rebounds, Deshaies netted 18 points with Wormack adding 11 for the Chargers (10-1), who shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field despite only going 6-of-19 from beyond the arc for their sixth straight win.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday resumes Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Caldwell.  Game time is at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's 3:00 pm contest.
