Women’s Basketball Rolls to 84-55 Triumph Over Nyack



Goldey-Beacom took control in the first half and then poured it on in the third quarter, running away with an 84-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over Nyack at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Lightning owned a 44-29 halftime lead by shooting 52 percent (16-of-31) from the field with seven 3-pointers and holding the Warriors to just 36 percent (11-of-31).  Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) scored 11 points in that span on 5-of-7 shooting with eight rebounds, fellow sophomore Reetta Saaski (Espoo, Finland) poured in nine, senior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) recorded eight and six rebounds with sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) also adding eight points.
 
Goldey-Beacom then dominated the third quarter, outscoring Nyack 25-12 by shooting 55 percent (6-of-11) from the field en route to a 69-41 lead.  McGrogan again went on a tear with 11 points on 3-of-4 shooting to go with two 3-pointers and Harrison added six points, going 6-for-8 from the line.
 
McGrogan overall finished with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting, went 7-for-7 from the line and also closed with eight rebounds.  She now is in eighth place in GBC history all by herself with 262 made free throws.
 
Harrison closed with 17 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, Round netted 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting with four 3-pointers and Saaski scored 12 points on four 3-pointers for the Lightning (2-14, 2-6 CACC), who have won six straight from the Warriors
 
Chi-La Bady netted 11 points for Nyack (6-9, 4-4), which shot 31 percent (18-of-59) from the field and committed 12 turnovers.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday faces Georgian Court at 6:00 pm in Lakewood, NJ.  The men's game between the same schools follows at 8:00 pm.
