Men’s Soccer Handed Tough Overtime Loss by Millersville

Goldey-Beacom could not hold onto a one-goal lead late and gave up a penalty-kick tally 9:21 into overtime for a 2-1 loss to Millersville in Newark, DE.

The Lightning dominated play in the opening half to the tune of a 7-3 shots edge and were rewarded with a goal.  Senior Nicolas Jaramillo (Cali, Colombia) capitalized on a turnover and got the ball to junior Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia), who tallied for his first goal of the season and seventh career.

The second half was a battle with the Marauders getting the equalizer in the 73rd minute.  Bob Hennessey won the ball by the sideline and got it to Roger Buesmaill Jr., who tallied for a 1-1 contest.

Overtime saw both units have their chances, but a GBC handball led to a Millersville penalty kick.  Nathan Maynard did the honors by scoring in the 100th minute to end the match.

Jaramillo closed with four shots for the Lightning (0-2), who ended with a 14-13 advantage.  Junior Cole Lewis (Middletown, DE) recorded two saves in his first match of the season.

Matteo Adiletta and Jake Gosselin attempted three shots apiece with Brady Hochman making three saves for the Marauders (1-1).

Goldey-Beacom next Monday plays its home opener against Shepherd, beginning at 4:15 pm.
