Women’s Tennis Begins League Play With 6-1 Triumph at Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom used the combination of seasoned veterans and several newcomers to open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 6-1 victory at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom opened by taking the doubles point, something it did in 15 of its 21 matches last season. Sophomores Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) and Imane Van Veen (Paris, France) got a 6-4 triumph over Millie Coombes and Chang Wei at first doubles, senior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and freshman Sara Edebo (Gothenburg, Sweden) recorded a 6-2 win over Marta Yevstakhevych and Ines Blanc at No. 2 doubles with senior Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and sophomore Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) posting a 6-0 victory at third doubles over Kate High and Elisa Hardeski.

Sophomore Salome Lang (Panazol, France) in her first dual match recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory at first singles over Yevstakhevych and Edebo also won her first dual encounter, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles over Coombes. Senior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles over High and Garcia Valle posted a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles over Hardeski.

Sophomore Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) recorded the last victory for the Lightning, 5-7, 7-6 (12-10), 1-0 (10-8) over Blanc at third singles.

This marks the 25th time in the last 26 CACC matches Goldey-Beacom (1-0, 1-0 CACC) has been victorious. It also is Goldey-Beacom's 12th straight win over Jefferson (2-3, 0-2).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Holy Family. Please note the match will be played at Delcastle Tennis Center and will begin at 1:00 pm.
