Baseball Falls Twice in a Tough Battle Against Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom falls twice, 7-2 and 11-9, in a tough battle against Wilmington in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in New Castle, DE.

In game one, Wilmington took the early lead in the bottom of the second when Matt Stepnoski hit a single RBI single to right field.
 
The Lightning quickly responded in the top of the third when Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.) reached on a fielding error by the short stop which allowed for Tevin Thomas (Dover, Del.) to score.

Wilmington regained the lead in the bottom of the third when Eddie Nevins hit a single RBI single through the left side. 

The Wildcats go on to score three more runs for a 5-1 lead going into the top of the eighth inning.

Goldey-Beacom continued to battle adding another run in the top of the eighth inning when Cole Collins (Laurel, Del.) hit a group ball to third which allowed for Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, Del.) to score. 

Wilmington went on to take game one 7-2.

Connor Megginson (Harbeson, Del.) and Thomas both went 2-for-4 for Goldey-Beacom in game one. 

Dan Hyatt (6-1) pitched eight innings with seven strike outs and only gave up two runs for Wilmington. 

In game two, Wilmington took an early lead going up 5-0 in the first three innings.

Despite trailing by five, the Lightning fought back. In the top of the fourth inning, Goldey-Beacom gained momentum when Awtry hit a homerun.

In the top of the fifth inning, Goldey-Beacom kept it rolling when Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, Del.) hit an RBI single down the left line. Following Gillis, Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, N.J.) hits an RBI single down the right field line. Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama) also hit an RBI single through the left side and Zach Roseman (Wilmington, Del.) hit an RBI single to right field to tie the game 5-5.

Megginson crushed the ball to left field for a three RBI homerun to give the Lightning an 8-5 lead after the top of the fifth inning.

Wilmington quickly responded in the bottom of the fifth inning when Julian Kurych hit an RBI double to right center field to close the gap to two points.

Goldey-Beacom increased their lead to three in the top of the sixth inning when Abdul hit an RBI double to center field. Goldey-Beacom lead Wilmington 9-6 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Down three, Wilmington built their momentum when Luke Johnson hit a three RBI homerun to centerfield to tie the game 9-9. Max Carney followed with an RBI double to right field to put the Wildcats up 11-9 to win game two despite the constant battle by both teams.

Gillis, Abdul, Thomas and Collins all went 2-for-4 in game two for the Lightning.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the University of the Sciences at 12pm in Philadelphia, PA.
