Softball Drops a Pair at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom made the short trip to Route 13 to play one of the powers in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference and was handed a pair of losses, 3-0 and 8-0, by Wilmington (DE).

Goldey-Beacom sophomore Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) took a one-hit shutout into the fifth inning before the Wildcats put up a crooked number in the frame.  Courtney Dellinger scored on a two-out throwing error and Rosa'Lynn Burton really did damage with a two-run triple, making it 3-0.

Beres did her best to keep the Lightning in it, striking out four over six innings with just one walk.  Sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) and senior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) had two hits apiece.

Caitlyn Whiteside continued to be a thorn for the Lightning (8-32, 6-16 CACC), striking out five over seven innings in her six-hit shutout.

The Wildcats (32-12, 20-4) in game two plated four runs in the last of the first inning.  Burton and Kiana Broderson-Jones each scored on errors, Lauren Lopez had an RBI single and Alyssa Velasquez added a sacrifice fly.

Burton in the second inning crossed home on another error and Makayla McCarthy ripped an RBI triple for a 7-0 margin.

Lockwood again recorded two hits, giving her a team-best 12 multi-hit contests this season.

Burton went 3-for-3 with Broderson-Jones getting two hits.  McCarthy struck out four over five innings, tossing a three-hit shutout.

Goldey-Beacom on Friday travels to Bridgeport for a non-conference doubleheader.  Please note that has been moved up to a 1:00 pm start.
