Softball Handed a Pair of Tough Losses at Nyack

Goldey-Beacom battled hard with Nyack in a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses, dropping a 3-0 contest in the opener before a tough 4-3, eight-inning setback in game two.

Nyack in the second inning of game one scored the only run it would need on Morgan Hans' one-out homer.  The home side got two more in the third on Alissa Brugnoli's two-out single for the final.

Junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) rapped two hits with freshman Emily Lozowski (Marlton, NJ) and sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) getting one each for the Lightning.  Sophomore Taylor Beres (Middletown, DE) tied her career best with nine strikeouts, pitching six innings.

Arielys Rodriguez had two hits with Alyssa Giampolo tossing a four-hit shutout, striking out five for the Warriors.

Down 1-0 in game two, the Lightning got three runs home in the top of the fourth for a 3-1 cushion.  With two runners on, freshman Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) brought home senior Alexa Calareso (Millville, NJ) with an RBI double.  Junior Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) then got Whitman and sophomore Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) home on a two-run double for the lead.

But the Lightning could not hold the two-run margin.  Erin O'Brien made it 3-2 in the fourth with an RBI single and Brugnoli leveled things in the last of the seventh on a one-out single.

The Warriors then found a way in the eighth inning.  Giampolo doubled, took third on Krissy Johnson's single and scored on O'Brien's winning single.

Gatto and Calareso rapped two hits apiece for the Lightning (8-28, 6-12 CACC).

O'Brien, Hans and Brugnoli all had two hits for the Warriors (14-23, 11-9).

Goldey-Beacom is scheduled to play at Bridgeport on Monday, weather permitting.
