Women’s Tennis Notches 6-1 Victory Over Indiana (PA)

Goldey-Beacom kept its red-hot play going in posting a 6-1 victory over Indiana (PA) at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

Sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) just moved up in the national rankings this week from 15th to seventh. They celebrated that with a 7-6 (7-4) triumph at first doubles over Katya Minchenkova and Thais Andreotti.

Lesscher y Post got a 6-3, 7-5 win at first singles over Minchenkova, Zheng recorded a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles over Julia Newman, freshman Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) notched a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Andreotti at third singles and junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) got a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles over Maria Magraner.

The win was vital for Goldey-Beacom (13-4), which is seventh in the ITA East Region Rankings and looks to move up next week when the first NCAA regional poll is released. The Lightning still have a very strong chance of getting an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.

IUP (6-9) is first in the Atlantic Region.

Goldey-Beacom ends its regular season Sunday against Slippery Rock, beginning at 11:00 am. The latter is ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region.
