Softball Drops Two to No. 18 Georgian Court



Goldey-Beacom in game one kept 18th-ranked Georgian Court at bay with a 4-0 loss in game one before a late-game onslaught in game two led to an 11-0 setback during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.
 
Haley Jones in game one got the Lions on the board by scoring on a fielding error in the second inning.  Eryka Springer in the third stroked an RBI single and Jones added a sacrifice fly later in the frame for a 3-0 contest.
 
Samantha Reilly lifted a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning for the final.
 
Middletown, DE sophomore Taylor Beres (6-10) kept the Lightning (8-24, 6-10 CACC) in the game, striking out three and allowing just three earned runs and seven hits over seven innings.
 
Jessica O'Neil (13-1) tossed a four-hit shutout with three strikeouts for Georgian Court.  Malaya Black rapped two hits.
 
Game two was scoreless entering the fifth inning before the Lions erupted for five runs in the frame.  Malia Black had an infield single that brought home a run, Springer crushed a three-run triple and Jones lined an RBI double.
 
Georgian Court (32-5, 17-1) got five more runs in the seventh, highlighted by Jones' two-run single.
 
Jones finished with three hits and three RBI.  Mikayla Gilgert (12-3) struck out seven over six innings, allowing just four hits.
 
Sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) had a hit in game two and now owns the team lead with 28 this season for GBC.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Thursday is home again for the seventh time in 10 days.  This time it will face Kutztown for a 2:30 pm doubleheader at the Jackson Complex.
