Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Taite Nets 40 Points in Men’s Basketball’s CACC Quarterfinal Victory Over Caldwell

Senior Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ) continued to amaze with 40 points and extended his incredible free throw streak in Goldey-Beacom's 86-78 victory over Caldwell in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Taite matched his career high in points from December 16, 2017 against Adelphi by shooting 9-of-16 from the floor, 6-of-10 from 3-point range and 16-for-16 from the line.  Taite, picked first team All-CACC a second straight year, has made all of his free throws the last three games by connecting on 45 straight.

His solid play and that of his teammates has Goldey-Beacom (15-14) in the semifinals for a second straight year.  GBC will face North Division champion Bloomfield on Saturday at noon in Caldwell, NJ.

The first half was a struggle for control with Goldey-Beacom holding a 38-33 lead by shooting 52 percent (13-of-25) from the floor, 5-of-10 from 3-point range and 17-for-18 from the line.  Taite netted 14 points in the half and senior Troy Stancil (Washington, DC) added 12.

While it would not show in the stats with the Cougars shooting 50 percent (13-of-26), the Lightning played solid defense in opening half to keep the game close.

Goldey-Beacom held a 74-62 lead with 3:30 left when sophomore Tevin Service (Union, NJ) hit two free throws.  Caldwell refused to fold the entire way, getting a layup from Ahmad Harrison and a 3-pointer from AJ Kittles with 2:27 remaining for a 74-67 game.

Taite made a huge layup with 1:56 to go and, after Kittles' two free throws, hit two from the stripe with 1:24 left for a 78-69 game.  Following Kittles' missed 3-pointer, Taite hit twice from the line with 70 seconds remaining for an 80-69 game that all but ended things.

Stancil had 12 points and six rebounds with Service netting 12 points for the Lightning, who shot 47 percent (26-of-55) from the field and 22-for-24 from the line.  Sophomore Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) hauled in a game-high seven rebounds.

Harrison and Kittles netted 21 points apiece for the Cougars (17-12), who shot 49 percent (27-of-55) from the floor but committed 18 turnovers.  Caldwell's loss was just its second in its last 11 contests.

Goldey-Beacom is in the CACC Tournament a third straight year.  It hosted a quarterfinal a second consecutive season for the first time since doing so four straight years from 2009-12.
