McGrogan Hits Career High in Women's Basketball's CACC Quarterfinal Victory Over Dominican

Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) hits career high of 30 points which helped Goldey-Beacom beat Dominican 75-60 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament quarterfinals in Orangeburg, NY.

Goldey-Beacom and Dominican fought back and forth keeping the game close in the first half. They Lightning scored first but Dominican quickly answered. Both teams continued to battle and at the end of the first quarter Dominican was up by two.

At the start of the second quarter Dominican started to gain a small lead on Goldey-Beacom going up by five right off the start. Although down by five, the Lightning fought back and made it a three point game at the end of the half. Dominican remained ahead 38-35 at half. 

McGrogan had 16 points and five rebounds, Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.) had eight points and five rebounds and Alexis Harrison (Millville, N.J.) had six points and five rebounds for the Lightning in the first half. 

Dominican came out strong at the start of the second half. Korina Guerra and Jasmine Gee both drained a three pointer to give Dominican a seven point lead over the Lightning. McGrogan hit two threes for the Lightning making it a one point game with 6:51 remaining in the third quarter. 

Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA.) got fouled and sent to the line to shoot two free throws. She makes one to tie the game. The Chargers responded with a layup and jump shot to go up by four. The Lightning quickly came back equalizing the game 50-50 with four minutes left in the third quarter. 

Turner-Rush hits a three with 21 seconds left in the third quarter to make it a one point game. Dominican lead Goldey-Beacom 56-55 going into the fourth quarter. 

Goldey-Beacom didn't look back in the fourth quarter going up by 10 in the first five minutes. Dominican continued to battle but the Lightning went on an eight point run giving them a 16 point lead with 1:56 remaining in the game. Goldey-Beacom got a rebound off a missed three by Guerra to end the game. The Lightning beat Dominican 75-60 to advance to the CACC Tournament semifinals on Saturday. 

Speaks had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Turner-Rush added another 13 points for Goldey-Beacom. 

Gee tabbed 18 points, Guerra had 17 points and Samantha McClutchy had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Dominican. 

Goldey-Beacom will be back in action on Saturday in Caldwell, NJ. for the CACC Tournament semifinals. The Lightning will take on Jefferson at 7pm.
