Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 13 Jefferson in the CACC Semifinals

Goldey-Beacom faced a machine in 13th-ranked Jefferson and saw its season conclude with an 80-56 loss in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference semifinals in Caldwell, NJ.

Jefferson in the opening quarter sprinted to a 26-14 lead by shooting 58 percent (11-of-19) from the field and canning three 3-pointers.  Caitlyn Cunningham led the charge with 10 points and Beverly Kum added seven for the Rams, who forced seven turnovers in the period.

The margin widened in the second quarter, despite junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ) drilling a half-court shot to end the period.  Jefferson gained a 20-15 edge on the scoreboard by shooting 50 percent (8-of-16) from the field.  Alynna Williams poured in eight points in the period for the Rams.

Williams ended the half with 11 points and McGrogan closed with nine.  Jefferson shot 54 percent (19-of-35) in the half, but more importantly induced 14 turnovers to gain a 46-29 lead.

McGrogan overall closed with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting and was picked to the All-Tournament Team.  Senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) netted 12 with sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) getting 11 and seven rebounds for the Lightning (14-16).

Cunningham and Kum ended with 18 points, Williams poured in 17 and Jessica Kaminski added 16 for the Rams (28-2).

Turner-Rush, an incredible two-sport athlete for the Lightning, ends her basketball career 10th in school history with 949 points, fourth with 158 three-pointers, 10th with 343 field goals and 11th with 167 assists.  She made the league's Academic Honor Roll in all eligible semesters.

The loss ends a solid campaign for Goldey-Beacom, which made the CACC Tournament for the eighth time in the last 10 years.  The Lightning upended Wilmington (DE) on the last day of the regular season to qualify before upsetting North Division champion Dominican (NY) on Tuesday in the quarterfinals.  GBC competes in the ultra-competitive South Division which includes fourth-ranked University of the Sciences in addition to Jefferson.
