Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Handed a Pair of Setbacks at Dominican (NY)

Goldey-Beacom did not leave upstate New York with the results as planned with a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference setbacks, 7-3 and 7-0, at Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

The Lightning in the fourth inning of game one moved to a 3-3 tie.  Freshman Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, DE) drove home a run on a fielder's choice and sophomore Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) continued her strong play with a two-run double, plating Whitman and junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD).

But the Chargers took the lead for good with three runs in the last of the fourth.  Rajene Bowe lined a two-run triple to right field and then crossed home on an error for a 6-3 contest.

Alyssa Siess launched a one-out homer in the fifth for the final.

Henriquez and Goshorn had two hits apiece for the Lightning (6-14, 4-6 CACC).

Emily Luzetsky batted 4-for-4 with Rowe, Samantha Fitzgerald and Madison Newman getting two hits apiece for the Chargers.  Madeline Uschock struck out six over seven innings, yielding three runs and four hits.

Dominican in game two plated all of its runs in the second inning.  Bowe continued her onslaught with a two-run single in addition to Luzetsky lining an RBI single.

Shelby Smith (2-2) was great for the Chargers (8-11, 5-1) in tossing a one-hit shutout, striking out two over seven innings.  Bowe and Luzetsky notched two hits apiece.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday hosts the University of the Sciences for a doubleheader at the Jackson Complex, beginning at 2:30 pm.
