Goldey-Beacom takes the advantage in both games and never looks back. The Lightning beat Bloomfield, 4-0 and 4-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Wilmington, DE.
In game one, Goldey-Beacom gained their momentum in the top of the third inning when the catcher made a bad throw allowing for Rachel Davis (Bethel, Del.) to score.Â
With a 1-0 lead going into the top of the fifth inning, Goldey-Beacom added to their advantage with a single RBI to short stop by Kaisey Reed (Milton, Del.). The Lightning continued with another single RBI hit up the middle by Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, N.J.). The Lightning lead Bloomfield 3-0 going into the sixth inning.Â
At the top of the sixth inning, Braydee Whitman (Dagsboro, Del.) hit a single RBI up the middle to put the Lighting up 4-0 to win game one.Â
Reed (2-1) pitched 5.1 innings with three stake outs and didn't allow any runs.Â
Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, Md.) went 2-for-4 in game one with two runs, Davis went 2-for three with one run, and Whitman went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Goldey-Beacom.
In game two, the Lightning kept their momentum from game one and took an early lead. At the top of the second inning Taylor Beres (Middletown, Del.) hit a ground ball to short stop which allowed for Jess Lusk (Victoria, B.C.) to score. The Lightning kept a 1-0 lead until the top of the fourth inning.Â
At the top of the fourth inning, Emily Lozowski (Marlton, N.J.) stole second and due to a throwing error by the catcher, Whitman was able to score and Lozowski advanced to third. The Lightning grew their lead to three.
Goldey-Beacom kept it rolling in the top of the sixth inning when Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, N.J.) reached off an error by the third baseman. The error by the third baseman lead to a throwing error by the short stop which allowed for Lozowski to score.
The Lightning went on to win game two 4-0.
Beres (4-5) pitched all seven innings with six strike outs and did not give up any runs. Â
Lauren Booth went 2-for three in game two for Bloomfield.Â
Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Saturday for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up against Dominican (NY) at noon in Orangeburg, NY.
