Softball Falls Twice to Jefferson

Despite the constant battle by Goldey-Beacom, they are dealt a pair of losses, 3-2 and 7-4, to Jefferson in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader in Philadelphia, PA.

In game one, Jefferson took the early lead when Emily Williams nailed the ball over the left field fence for a double RBI home run in the bottom of the first inning. Courtney Wensel kept the momentum going for Jefferson with a single RBI double to left field at the bottom of the second inning. Jefferson lead the Lightning 3-0 through to the top of the sixth inning.

At the top of the sixth inning, Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, Md.) crushed a double RBI home run over the left field fence. Despite closing the gap to one point, Jefferson went on to win game one 3-2.

Stephanie Pepper (5-3) pitched all seven innings with seven strike outs and only allowed two runs.

In game two, Jefferson struck first with a single RBI up the middle by Williams in the bottom of the first inning. The Rams added two more runs at the bottom of the second inning with a double RBI single to left center by Bridgette Schaffer. The Rams didn't stop there.

At the bottom of the third inning Madison Heno hit a sacrifice bunt and reached on a fielder's choice. This play allowed for Winnai Hoyt to score. Jefferson lead Goldey-Beacom 4-0 going into the top of the fourth inning.

Goldey-Beacom fought back when Kaisey Reed (Milton, Del.) reached on a fielder's choice which allowed for Jess Lusk (Victoria, B.C.) to score. On the fielder's choice, the short stop made a throwing error which also allowed for Rachel Davis (Bethel, Del.) to score.

The Lightning continued their momentum at the top of the fifth inning, Lusk fouled out to right field on a sacrifice fly which allowed for a single RBI. Davis then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing for Kayla Vaillancourt (Edgewater, Md.) to score from obstruction by the catcher. Goldey-Beacom now tied with Jefferson 4-4 after the top of the fifth inning.

Jefferson went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning to win game two 7-4.

Stephanie Pepper (6-3) pitched three innings with four strike outs and did not give up any runs.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Friday for a doubleheader against Bloomfield at 2pm in Wilmington, DE.
