Women’s Tennis Notches 5-2 Win Over UDC

Goldey-Beacom received a tough match from the District of Columbia and left Elkton, MD with a 5-2 victory.

These two have battled each other for years in a key East Region matchup and it was the Lightning (11-3) prevailing again, moving to 6-0 in the series. GBC entered the match ranked seventh in the East Region and UDC is fourth.

Sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) moved to 16-3 as a tandem this season with a 6-2 triumph at first doubles against Simone Parn and Marija Milic. Their 16th victory matches their total from last season, which is the second-most single-season wins in team history. The record of 21 was set last season by Fredrika Regner.

Junior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and freshman Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-2 victory over Anastasia Khomyachenko and Estefania Castillon from the Firebirds (10-4).

Garcia Valle got singles going at No. 4 in winning her match by retirement after leading Paula Avellan, 6-2, 4-2. Lesscher y Post topped Parn, 6-4, 6-3, at first singles, Zheng got a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles over Milic before freshman Andrea Fresneda (Valencia, Spain) posted a 7-5, 6-1 win at sixth singles over Khomyachenko.

It was Fresneda's team-best 14th singles victory of the campaign.

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday hosts New York Tech for a 1:00 pm match at Springton Tennis Club in Media, PA.
