Softball Dealt a Pair of Losses by Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom ran into perennial Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference power Caldwell and was dealt a pair of losses, 10-3 and 10-0, at the Jackson Complex in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in game one opened a 1-0 lead in the last of the second inning when sophomore Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) doubled to left-center field, scoring junior Jess Lusk (Victoria, BC).  But the Cougars got three runs in the top of the third, aided by Carly Testa's two-run single, for a 3-1 lead.

Henriquez stroked an RBI double in the fourth to score freshman Noelle Gramlich (Bordentown, NJ) for a 5-2 deficit, but Caldwell got one run in the fifth and four in the sixth for a 10-2 margin.  Anyssia Ramirez had a two-run triple in the sixth to spark the inning.

Junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) in the last of the sixth drew a bases-loaded walk for the final.  It was her team-leading 11th RBI of the campaign and she has reached base in all 14 of the Lightning's contests this season.

Henriquez and Goshorn had two hits apiece for GBC (4-10, 2-2 CACC).

Sara Bearden (4-3) struck out eight for the Cougars (6-10, 2-0), allowing just two runs and six hits over five innings.  Nora Conway had four hits with Testa, Maya Rodriguez, Kaileen Cain, and Jessie Johnston getting two apiece.

The Cougars in game two got three runs in the second inning for a 4-0 lead, keyed by Conway's two-run triple.  Daniela Solis and Lauren Stansell each had two-run singles in a six-run fifth inning for the final.

Conway had three hits and two RBI in game two, ending her day 7-for-9 with three RBI.  Mariah Culver (2-6) allowed just four hits over four scoreless frames before Johnston pitched the fifth inning.

Goshorn doubled for one of the Lightning's four hits.
