Softball Continues Play in Myrtle Beach


 
Goldey-Beacom once again ran into strong competition by playing in day two of the Snowbird Freeze Out in Myrtle Beach, SC.
 
GBC was dealt a 10-2 loss by West Virginia State in the opener and an 11-1 setback by Southern New Hampshire in the nightcap.
 
Goldey-Beacom in its opener drew to a 1-1 tie in the first inning when junior Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) ripped an RBI double to left-center field, scoring sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD).  Lockwood in the fourth inning laced an RBI double to plate freshman Kaisey Reed (Milton, DE).
 
Goshorn ended with two hits as part of the Lightning's nine.
 
Paige Scruggs went 3-for-3 with Kayleigh Thompson rapping two hits for the Yellow Jackets.  Emily Thompson allowed a run and seven hits over four frames.
 
Playing seven hours later than scheduled due to rain, GBC (0-4) opened the scoring against SNHU in the first inning.  Lockwood reached on a leadoff single, took second on a single from freshman Emily Lozowski (Marlton, NJ), reached third on a sacrifice from senior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) and scored on a wild pitch.
 
Lockwood ended with two hits.
 
Erin Garczynski went 3-for-3 for the Penmen with Chloe Griffin, Emily Carbonneau and Erin Tyrell all homering.  Olivia Strasser allowed just a run and six hits over five innings.
 
Goldey-Beacom closes its play in Myrtle Beach on Sunday against Saint Anselm at 10:00 am and Lock Haven at noon.
