Women's Basketball Falls to No. 9 Jefferson 94-52



Goldey-Beacom fell to No. 9 Jefferson, 94-52, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Philadelphia, PA.

Jefferson took the lead early going on a 15-point scoring streak in the first quarter. Caitlyn Cunningham had 11 points to contribute to the Rams early lead.  Goldey-Beacom fought back in the second quarter out scoring Jefferson 19-15. Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.) and junior Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) both put up nine points for the Lightning in the first half.

Goldey-Beacom battled back and forth with the Rams in the third quarter but Jefferson continued to pull away. Within the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter Jefferson went on a 19-point scoring streak to pull away.

Freshman Sarah Round (Northampton, England) totaled 14 points, Speaks and McGrogan both added 11 with McGrogan having six rebounds. Senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) put up seven points with five rebounds for Goldey-Beacom.

Cunningham had 31 points, Beverly Kum had a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Jessica Kaminski added 19 points for Jefferson.

The Lightning (12-12, 8-7 CACC) are sitting in fourth place battling for the fourth and final conference tournament spot from the CACC South Division, 2 1/2 games ahead of Holy Family (5-9) and Wilmington (5-9).  Goldey-Beacom's magic number for a conference-tournament berth is three.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Saturday vs. Dominican (NY) at 1:00 pm in Orangeburg, New York. The men play Dominican (NY) following the women's contest at 3:00 pm.
