Women's Basketball Falls 100-97 in Double Overtime to Dominican

Goldey-Beacom put up a tremendous effort but fell short in double overtime to Dominican (NY), 100-97, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup in Orangeburg, NY.

Goldey-Beacom and Dominican (NY) remain even in the first quarter. The Chargers go up by five in the first two minutes, but the Lightning quickly equalize it. The teams battled back and forth until Goldey-Beacom pulls ahead by six to end the first quarter.

The Lightning continued their lead all through the second quarter. Goldey-Beacom went up seven with four minutes remaining in the half. Despite being down by seven, Dominican (NY) fought its way back to tie the game with a minute remaining in the half. Jaid Harrell makes a layup to put the Chargers up by two to finish the half.

At the start of the third quarter the Lightning come out strong going up by seven in the first three minutes. Dominican fights to close the gap making it a four-point game with 2:17 left in the third quarter. Goldey-Beacom quickly respond and give themselves a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Lightning out scored the chargers 23-16 in the third quarter

Things heated up in the fourth quarter with the Lightning going up by 10 with eight minutes remaining. The Chargers did not break under pressure and continue to close the gap. Jasmine Gee makes a layup with 1:47 left in the game to put Dominican (NY) down by two. Kyla Ramseur draws a foul to go to the line to shoot two. Ramseur makes both free throws to tie the game 78-78 to send it into overtime.

With 4:44 remaining in overtime, Gee draws a foul to shoot two. Gee misses her first shot but makes her second to put Dominican (NY) up by one. With 2:48 remaining in overtime Sarah Round (Northampton, England) makes a layup to tie the game. The Chargers go on to make two layups to go up by four with 1:54 left. Reetta Saaski (Espoo, Finland) gets fouled and goes to the line to shoot two. She makes both her shots to make it a two-point game. Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, Pa.) hits a three pointer to put the Lightning up one with 1:10 left in overtime. Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, Del.) doesn't crack under pressure going to the line and makes one free throw to tie the game to send it into a second overtime.

Dominican wasted no time in the second overtime going up by six in the first two and a half minutes. Goldey-Beacom fights back and with 0:42 remaining in the second overtime, Saaski hits a three to put the Lightning up 95-94. Dominican (NY) went up four with a layup and three free throws with 0:11 left in the game. The continuous battle by both teams went in Dominican's favor at the end of the second overtime to give them the 100-97 win.

Round had 27 points, Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, N.J.) scored 25 and Speaks added 18 for the Lightning.

Korina Guerra had 20 points, Ramseur had 19 and Gee had 17 for the Chargers.

Goldey-Beacom sits in fourth place in the CACC South Division and continues to fight for a spot in the CACC Tournament.

The Lightning are back in action on Saturday February 23 against University of the Sciences at 1pm in Wilmington, DE.
