Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Battles to 91-83 Triumph Over Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom was given a huge test from local-rival Wilmington in a great battle of two solid programs, one that saw the former use a massive run bridging both halves for a 91-83 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning were in a 36-29 hole with 3:45 to go in the first half after earlier being up double figures.  But the tide turned when the home side exploded for a 23-4 run in just under 10 minutes to open a 52-40 lead with 14:07 left.  Freshman Jesiah West (Elizabeth, NJ) scored nine points in that time and junior Kyle Elliot (Rahway, NJ) netted eight for GBC, which shot 7-of-16 from the floor and induced seven turnovers.

Wilmington did get a 9-3 run in just under two minutes to close to 82-76 with 3:29 left, thanks to Taalib Holloman's five points.  But freshman Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) made one free throw for GBC with 3:05 to play and, after over a minute without a score, Elliot nailed a free throw with 1:40 remaining for an 84-76 contest.

West recorded season highs of 28 points on 8-of-13 shooting and 17 rebounds for his second double-double.  He also amassed five blocks and now has 32, tied for the eighth-best single-season mark in team history.

Elliot netted 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting with Derry and junior Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ) pouring in 12 apiece for the Lightning (6-6, 3-0 CACC), who shot 52 percent (15-of-29) from the floor in the second half and 50 percent (28-of-56) overall.

Holloman netted 17 points, Jordan Harding scored 16, Jermaine Head poured in 15, Danny Walsh netted 14 and Qadir Burgess added 13 for the Wildcats (2-9, 0-3), who shot 44 percent (26-of-59) from the floor but committed 20 turnovers.

Goldey-Beacom is off for two weeks as it returns to action Saturday, January 4 at Caldwell.  Game time in Caldwell, NJ is at 3:00 pm.
