Women’s Basketball Handed 75-45 Loss by University of the Sciences



Goldey-Beacom saw the visitors get off to a hot start and, despite its strong play in the second quarter, was handed a 75-45 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss by regionally ranked University of the Sciences at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
 
The Devils, ranked fifth in the East Region according to D2SIDA, in the opening quarter shot 50 percent (8-of-16) from the floor with three 3-pointers to gain a 19-6 lead.  Jess Huber scored nine points in the period by going 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
 
The Lightning in the second quarter poured in 21 points on 50 percent shooting (8-of-16) to trail 41-27 at the break.  Sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) netted eight points on 3-of-3 shooting with two 3-pointers and senior Jill Latanowich (Newton, MA) added five points.
 
But USciences in the second half outscored GBC 34-18 in the second half by shooting 44 percent (11-of-25) from the floor with five 3-pointers.  Brigit Coleman poured in 10 points with Jordan Vitelli adding seven for the Devils (8-3, 2-1 CACC), who forced 11 turnovers in the half.
 
Round scored 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting with sophomore Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) adding eight and six rebounds for the Lightning (0-9, 0-2).
 
Goldey-Beacom returns home Saturday to face Wilmington (DE) at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's game between the same schools.
