Goldey-Beacom controlled play in the opening set, but despite holding a kills edge in three sets was handed a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 17-25) by Jefferson at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.
The Lightning in the opening set rolled to a 15-8 kills edge and the process amassed three aces. Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) pounded five kills in the set, fellow sophomore Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) had four with junior Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) and sophomore Chelsey James (Cherry Hill, NJ) getting three apiece.
GBC had a 16-13 kills advantage in the second set, but could not hold on to an 11-7 lead on the scoreboard. The third set witnessed the Lightning getting a 15-13 kills edge, but they could not overcome seven attack errors.
Jefferson in the fourth set amassed a 15-7 kills edge and GBC could not prevail despite only two attack errors.
Boyce ended with 23 kills to match her season high, Syrdahl pounded 11, Balderson recorded 10, sophomore Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) had 45 assists and 10 digs, junior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) notched 22 digs with sophomore Kaitlyn Stauffenberg (Tamaqua, PA) adding 10 digs for the Lightning (5-20, 2-15 CACC).
Abigail Kress could not be stopped with 18 kills and just two errors over 41 swings for a .390 percentage. Molly Hand dished 36 assists, Caitlin Crespo had 17 digs, Alexis Leddy had 16 and Mariah Cadzow added 10 for the Rams (16-9, 11-5).
Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is on the road to face Caldwell. Match time is at 3:00 pm.
