Goldey-Beacom grabbed early momentum and secured its latest spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Wilmington at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning owned the doubles point by winning both contested matches.  Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela) and fellow sophomore Imane Van Veen (Paris, France) notched a 6-2 victory at first doubles over Laura Gil and Sabrina Blasi with senior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and freshman Sara Edebo (Gothenburg, Sweden) getting a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles vs. Andrea Ribalta and Mallory Nolte.

A retirement for the Lightning at first singles and a default for the Wildcats (2-6, 2-4 CACC) at No. 6 singles made it 2-1, all before the former got a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins.  Freshman Aino Klintrup (Oulu, Finland) was victorious over Nolte at No. 4 singles and senior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) won over Grace Suttera at fifth singles.

Edebo, a member of this week's CACC Weekly Honor Roll, made it 5-1 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Ribalta at No. 3 singles.  Van Veen ended the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at third singles over Blasi.

Goldey-Beacom (6-0, 6-0 CACC) is headed to the CACC Tournament for the 12th time in team history with the previous 11 trips resulting in semifinal berths.  The squad has won the league title twice (2016 & 2017) and played in the conference final six times.  Last year's team advanced to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament, the furthest any squad has gone in this tournament in school history.

GBC is one-half match ahead of idle Concordia-NY (5-0) for first place.  The latter had its match postponed today against Post due to inclement weather.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Caldwell, beginning at noon at Delcastle Tennis Center.
