Goldey-Beacom's new student-athletes received a hearty welcome with all in attendance to hear encouraging words and receive solid information regarding their time in Pike Creek.

Among those in attendance included new President Dr. Colleen Perry Keith, who continued to show the same enthusiasm she has eagerly shown since first arriving campus in June.  Also in attendance were Director of Athletics Dr. Tom Brennan, Senior Woman Administrator/Assistant AD/Women's Basketball Coach Bethann Burke and many other administrators.

"Goldey-Beacom is fully committed to its student-athletes and it was great to have many in the College community around to ensure a smooth transition for all who recently arrived," Brennan said.

The New Student-Athlete Orientation program was introduced at the College in the 2017-18 academic year, aiding in the transition of student-athletes from high school or other colleges to Goldey-Beacom.  For this program, employees from all factions of the College come together to facilitate open discussion with the students in regard to class schedules, academic services, campus life, nearby amenities and other such important topics.

"Student-athlete orientation is always an exciting time," Burke said.  "I think the presence of Dr. Keith added to the experience for our student-athletes.  It was evident everyone is looking forward to having another successful year."

In addition to the many academic successes realized by the student-athletes in 2018-19, including five Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District selections and an Academic All-American, Goldey-Beacom Athletics also continues to have a student-athlete graduation and academic success rate that exceeds the institutional and national average.  The department last season also saw the women's tennis team advance to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament, marking the furthest any team in College history has gone in an NCAA event.
