Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Handed 2-1 Loss at Wilmington

Goldey-Beacom had yet another solid match with local-rival Wilmington (DE), but an early second-half goal did in the former for a 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss in Newark, DE.

The Wildcats got their first goal in the 31st minute.  Alex Keck lofted a shot from over 30 yards that took a weird bounce off the turf and went in for her first goal of the year.

Wilmington made it 2-0 just 26 seconds into the second half.  Kailey Hyland had the ball to the left of goal and her shot caromed in for her third tally of the season.

The Lightning got back into the match in the 76th minute for a one-goal deficit.  A foul in the box led to a penalty kick and sophomore Jackie Ayers (Rising Sun, MD) knocked it home for her fourth goal of the season and fifth career.

Goldey-Beacom possessed several chances late and also had a corner kick with just over a minute left, but came up short for only its third loss in its last 12 matches.

The usual intense match between the two saw just six shots for each school.  Senior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) and junior Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway) had two shots each for the Lightning (9-5-2, 7-3-1 CACC) and Hyland recorded two for the Wildcats (7-8-1, 6-4-1).

Freshman Noel Talbot (Marriottsville, MD) amassed two saves for Goldey-Beacom and Emily Camp had three for Wilmington.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Post for a noon contest.
