Women’s Tennis Guts Out 5-2 Victory Over USciences

In an enthralling battle of two of the region's elite squads, Goldey-Beacom won five singles matches with two of them requiring a third set in a big 5-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over University of the Sciences at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning early on were placed in a tough spot after dropping the doubles point. They did get the win at second doubles with senior Alma Garcia Valle (Valladolid, Spain) and freshman Sara Edebo (Gothenburg, Sweden) getting a 6-0 triumph over Danielle Paran and Diana Sosonkin.

The singles rubbers produced intense battles with anything possible. Edebo evened the match for Goldey-Beacom with a 6-2, 6-3 win at fourth singles over Paran and sophomore Imane Van Veen (Paris, France) gave the home side the lead with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Myka Williams.

Sophomore Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) made it 3-1 GBC with a 7-5, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles over Julia James. The score became 3-2 before No. 3 singles produced great drama. Sophomore Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) shook off a battle from Stephanie Mazurek and clawed her way to a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win, clinching the match.

Senior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) ended things with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory at fifth singles over Myra Anwar.

Goldey-Beacom (4-0, 4-0 CACC) made it victories in 28 of its last 29 CACC regular-season matches and won its 14th consecutive match against USciences. GBC now is in a two-way tie with Concordia (4-0) atop the CACC, one-half match ahead of Chestnut Hill (3-0).

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday visits Post for a 1:00 pm match in Middlebury, CT.
