Goldey-Beacom took the first step in hopes of winning a third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title, opening league play with a 5-2 victory over Jefferson at McKean High School in Wilmington, DE.

The doubles point went the Lightning's way, starting with junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and freshman Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) getting a 6-1 victory at third doubles over Usha Baublitz and Katelyn High.  That point was clinched at No. 1 doubles with sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) recording a 6-3 triumph over Marta Yevstakhevych and Lauren Candia.

It was the first match for Lesscher y Post and Zheng since the duo advanced Monday to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region final.  Their 22nd career doubles win put each just two victories outside the school's top 10 list.

Zheng entered the match as the defending CACC Player of the Week.

Freshmen Maria Bruno (Maracay, Venezuela), the two-time reigning CACC Rookie of the Week, and Elin Anderson (Conwy, Wales) notched a 7-5 victory at second doubles over Chang Wei and Millie Coombes.

Lesscher y Post got a 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles over Yevstakhevych, Zheng battled to a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles over Wei, Hortelano Pey amassed a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at fourth singles over Coombes and freshman Andrea Fresneda (Valencia, Spain) got a 6-2, 6-2 win over Eryn Nguyen at No. 6 singles.

The victory for Goldey-Beacom (2-0, 1-0 CACC) was its 18th consecutive in a CACC regular-season match dating to 2015.  Jefferson (1-2) was playing its first conference match of the season.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Tuesday for a rescheduled match against University of the Sciences.  Please note the 5:30 pm tie will be competed at the University of Pennsylvania.
