Men’s Soccer Battles Tough but Falls Short to Shippensburg University 3-2



Goldey-Beacom fights until the last minute, but falls short to Shippensburg 3-2. 

Shippensburg wasted no time. In the seventh minute of play, Colin Marks crossed the ball on the ground to Cole Kropnick who placed the ball in the back of the net to put Shippensburg ahead by one. 

Both teams battling, Shippensburg gets a foul in the box for a penalty kick in the 27th-minute. Patrick Luebben steps up to take the kick for Shippensburg and buried the ball in the back of the net. Shortly after the penalty kick, Kropnick takes a corner in the 29th minute and scores off the kick to put Shippensburg up 3-0. 

Goldey-Beacom strikes back in the second half when Senior Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) crossed the ball to Joe Scarpinato (Middletown, DE) who placed the ball in the back of the net in the 44th minute. The Lightning continued to battle and quickly tallied another goal in the 49th minute. Aghrim places the ball on Junior Levi Maruca's (Downingtown, PA) foot who buried his shot in the back of the net to put the Lightning down by one.

Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) and Maruca had three shots each with Scarpinato and Nicolas Jaramillo (Cali, Columbia) both attempting two shots for the Lightning. Kropnick and Rueben both tallied three shots each for Shippensburg.

Goldey-Beacom is home Wednesday for another league match vs. Jefferson University at 4:30 pm.
