Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Falls, 2-0, to UDC in the Season Opener

A matchup of two teams who both went to the NCAA Tournament last year did not go Goldey-Beacom's way as it was handed a 2-0 loss by the District of Columbia in Millersville, PA.

An expected battled turned out to be just that and it was the Firebirds who scored first in the 28th minute.  Kelvin Herrera got a pass from Ryan Dagley and put a 25-yard shot into the back of the next.

UDC got an insurance marker in the 77th minute when Gabriel Torres converted a penalty kick for the final.

Senior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), a two-time reigning first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference pick as well as a CoSIDA third team Academic All-America pick last year, made six saves for the Lightning (0-1).  GBC also had five different players attempt a shot.

Torres took eight shots and Joao Brusamolin came up with two saves for UDC (1-0).

Goldey-Beacom, which last season won its second CACC title, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in its initial appearance.  UDC was eliminated in the first round.

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is back at Millersville University to play the host in a match scheduled for 7:00 pm.
