(2018 fall schedule)

The two-time defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Goldey-Beacom Women's Tennis team once again will be poised to remain among the league's elite and face a challenging slate as the 2018 fall schedule was revealed.

The season opens September 5 at Millersville before league play begins September 12 against Chestnut Hill at the renovated Delcastle Tennis Center.

The Lightning then travel to Flushing, NY from September 14-17 for the ITA East Regional Championship.  This last season turned out to be a major showcase for the squad with junior Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) going to both the doubles final and the singles semifinal.  The duo of sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) made it to the doubles semifinal.

A quick turnaround is in store for Goldey-Beacom, which on September 18 visits University of the Sciences.  The Lightning upended the Devils in the conference semifinals each of the last two seasons.

GBC hosts Wilmington (DE) on September 26 in a rematch of last year's conference final and closes the fall's regular season October 13 at Concordia (NY), a rematch of last season's second-round NCAA Tournament match.

The conference tournament starts October 16 with the semifinals and final later that week in Middlebury, CT.

Goldey-Beacom (16-3, 8-0 CACC) had a glorious season in which it defeated Wilmington (DE) for its second consecutive CACC title and seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament.  The squad finished 32nd in the country, was the top seed in the CACC Tournament for the second straight year, has won 17 consecutive regular-season league matches dating to 2015, appeared in the conference final in back-to-back years for the first time since going three straight seasons from 2009-11 and recorded its best start in team history at 12-0.

The Lightning received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in team history and competed in the second round for a third time in the last four years.  GBC also entered the match ranked first in the NCAA East Region.

Hortelano Pey is one of the key returnees for the squad after another standout campaign in which she ended 18th in the ITA East Region.  She has been picked first team all-league and to the conference's all-tournament team each of her first two years and enters the season ninth in school history with 25 singles triumphs.

Lesscher y Post made an impressive splash last season in her debut campaign, playing the entire way at first singles and first doubles to end fourth in the ITA East Region.  She notched 16 doubles wins, 12 singles victories, was picked the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Player and second team all-league.

Zheng also was a key contributor at first doubles and second singles, ending ninth in the ITA East Region.  The first team all-league pick and a member of the conference's all-tournament team, she closed the season with a team-best 18 singles victories to go with 16 doubles wins.
