Softball Drops Both Contests at Georgian Court

Goldey-Beacom faced a strong opponent in Georgian Court and was handed a pair of losses, 8-2 and 10-2, during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Lakewood, NJ.

Georgian Court in the opener broke the ice in the bottom of the first inning when Samantha Reilly cracked a two-run homer.  The home side got three more runs in the third, courtesy of Haley Jones scoring on Malia Black's sacrifice bunt and Caitlin Hughes belting a two-run long ball.

GBC got two back in the fifth for a 5-2 deficit.  Sophomore Kasey Goshorn (Salisbury, MD) ripped an RBI single through the left side and junior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) lined a run-scoring single to left-center field.

But the Lions got three in the sixth for the final.  Reilly and Samantha Salomon each hit solo homers and Mikaela Power added an RBI single.

Goshorn closed with two hits and Middletown, DE freshman Taylor Beres (1-7) permitted eight runs – seven earned – and nine hits over six innings.

Hughes, Reilly and Power all amassed two hits.  Taylor Baloga (4-5) allowed two runs and six hits over 4 2/3 innings for Georgian Court.

The Lions in game two plated six runs in the last of the second for an 8-0 lead.  Hughes led the charge with a two-run homer and Salomon followed with a solo blast.

Reilly added a two-run shot in the third for a 10-0 contest.  Goldey-Beacom got two back in the fifth when Beres roped a two-run single.

Senior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ) recorded two hits and Goshorn lined a double, extending her career-best hitting streak to eight games for the Lightning (2-17, 2-12 CACC).  Tower City, PA senior Kylie Doyle (1-7) allowed five runs and five hits over 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Jones totaled three RBI with Hughes, Reilly and Black getting two hits apiece for the Lions (18-13, 9-3).  Marissa Trezza (2-2) permitted two unearned runs and five hits over five innings with three strikeouts.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against East Stroudsburg for a 2:30 pm doubleheader.
