Turning the tide, Goldey-Beacom Softball split the CACC doubleheader against Dominican (NY) with scores of 7-13, 10-7 at the Jackson Athletic Complex.
The Chargers rolled through in game one while going on 11-1 run from the second to the sixth inning. Notable performances from the Chargers included Rajene Bowe (2-for-5), Alyssa Schwed (2-for-5, two RBI), Jillian Regan (3-for-4, three RBI) and Emily Luzetsky (3-for-4, two RBI).
For the Lightning, Senior Kelsey Brandle (Bethlehem, PA) batted 2-for-4 with two RBI, junior Rachel Davis (Bethel, DE) went 2-for-3, and junior Alexa Calareso (Millville, NJ) hit 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Jennifer Paride (6-4) picked up the win for the Chargers allowing one earned run through three innings.
Calareso (0-3) took the loss on the mound for the Lightning.
For game two, the Chargers (10-10, 7-3 CACC) started off hot scoring three runs in the first inning. Kasey Goshorn (sophomore from Salisbury, MD) and Zoe Lockwood (freshman from Chesapeake City, MD) helped the Lightning cut the lead down, 3-2, with a pair of RBI singles in the third inning.
During the fifth inning, Davis tied the score at three apiece when she struck a single down the middle to score Goshorn from second base, giving the Lightning a wave of momentum.Â
Sophomore Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) snatched the lead for the Lightning with an RBI single up the middle. Freshman Jaeda Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) followed with a double down the right field line bringing home two runners on the play.Â
The Lightning ended their monstrous fifth inning with RBI singles from senior Lauren Conway (Hammonton, NJ), Goshorn and Davis putting them up 10-3.
Dominican (NY) fought back adding four more runs in the sixth inning, but it was too little too late.
The tandem of Goshorn and Davis would not be denied at the plate going 4-for-4 with two RBI, and 3-for-3 with three RBI, respectively. Other big bats shown for the Lightning were Lockwood (2-for-3) and Henriquez (2-for-4, 2 RBI).
Kylie Doyle (1-6), the senior from Tower City, PA, earned the win for the Lightning allowing four earned runs through five innings.
Jenna Maska (3-2) got the loss on the mound for the Chargers.
Goldey-Beacom (2-15, 2-10) will play its next CACC doubleheader at Georgian Court. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Sunday in Lakewood, NJ.
